Vaillancourt Folk Art

There was a time when chocolate stores were on every street corner, and the delicious creations made from intricate chocolate molds were an art as respected as sculpting or painting. Now, many of these chocolate molds are sold to collectors around the world. Judi Vaillancourt, master artist behind Vaillancourt folk art, started collecting vintage chocolate molds in 1984. Intrigued by the beautiful, antique designs in the molds, she filled them with a substance similar to plaster and hand-painted the "chalkware" figurine that came out. The rich, hand-painted artwork brought out details in the mold that chocolate had never been able to capture, bringing the figures to life. In addition to chalkware, Vaillancourt has also created a line of hand-blown glass ornaments - titled "The Twelve Days of Christmas" - which are painted in a matte, unglazed finish, giving them a sophisticated, classic appeal that will bring the joy and serenity of Christmas into your home.
